The portable ultrasound my vet purchased saved Annie's life

I have had dogs all my life and have to admit that I have been to the vet 10 times more often than I have been to a human doctor. That said, I recently ran into my first ultrasound machine at a veterinary office. I’d seen many pieces of veterinary medical equipment that mirrored human doctors, but it struck me that I had never seen one of the most vital diagnostic tools, an ultrasound.

My dog Annie had been under the weather and a physical exam revealed nothing. The Vet brought out a little portable ultrasound, found a blockage in her intestine inside of 3 minutes, and had her in surgery in another 20. I can’t say how relieved we were that our current vet had the foresight to buy an ultrasound.
